Minimum Qualifications:
Associate Degree in Nursing
Effective 1/1/2020, the education level for entry into an RNFA position will be a bachelor’s degree. RNFAs/RNFA experience prior to 1/1/2020 without a bachelor’s degree will be permitted to practice as a RNFA (grandfathered as per AORN guidelines)
Two years of experience and working knowledge of specialty area
Currently enrolled and completing the curriculum of certified/accredited RN First Assistant
Licensure, Registration, Certification:
BLS
One of the following:
CNOR required (maybe in progress but must be completed prior to completion of RNFA program)

Desired Qualifications:
BSN/MSN degree in Nursing
Licensure, Registration, Certification:
CRNFA
Evaluates, plans, implements, and documents surgical nursing care for perioperative patients. Performs as a staff RN as well as, a First Assistant Student under the supervision of the appointed mentor/surgeon. As a First Assistant Student, performs surgical assistance under supervision of the appointed mentor/ surgeon. Functions in a scrub and circulating nurse role. Performs a variety of duties to assist surgeon during procedures.
