Qualifications

 

Minimum Qualifications:

 

One of the following:

  • Graduate from a medical school in the United States or Canada, accredited by the Liaison Committee on Medical Education (LCME)
  • Graduate from a college of osteopathic medicine in the United States, accredited by the American Osteopathic Association Commission on Osteopathic College Accreditation (AOACOCA)
  • Graduate from a medical school outside of the United States or Canada, must meet the following additional qualifications:
    • Medical School Diploma translated into English

Holds a currently valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG)

 

 

Licensure, Registration, Certification:

 

BLS

 

ACLS

 

Dependent on PGY Level and accredited program of medicine, must have or obtain Full Alabama Physician Licensure as follows:

 

Graduate from a medical school in the United States or Canada:

  • PGY Level 1: Must obtain limited Alabama Physician Licensure within 6 months of placement into position
  • PGY Level 2: Pass USMLE Step 3 or COMLEX-USA Level 3 and apply for full Alabama Physician Licensure within 6 months of placement into position
  • PGY Level 3 or higher: Full Alabama Physician Licensure

 

Graduate from a medical school outside of the United States or Canada requires one of the following:

  • Holds a currently valid certificate from the Educational Commission for Foreign Medical Graduates (ECFMG)
  • PGY Level 1 through PGY Level 3: Must obtain limited Alabama Physician Licensure within 6 months of placement into position
  • PGY Level 4 or higher: Full Alabama Physician Licensure or obtain Full Alabama Physician Licensure within 6 months of placement into position

Responsibilities

Under the supervision of attending physicians, responsibilities include examining and treating patients to ensure proper diagnosis, treatment, and recovery.  Within scope of clinical privileges, prescribes and administers medications, and provides advice regarding personal health and hygiene.  Requests necessary tests, follow-up visits and refers patients to other physicians, as necessary.
